Piggyback marketing: The T-Mobile Royal Wedding

In case it’s passed you by, there is the small matter of a Royal Wedding in the UK tomorrow. And in case it passed you by, T-Mobile released a great advertising skit to coincide with it.

A tenuous marketing link, and a break with tradition on this blog, but it’s worth a couple of minutes of your time and a useful example of how to piggyback a major event for your own promotional purposes.

    Beware the marketing backlash when those who have seen the original – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-94JhLEiN0 – realise it feels like a big brand has been rather lazy and copied a classic. I accept a lot of the target market may not have seen the original, but if it’s intended to go viral, it’s unwise to copy a video which is already viral and viewed over 65,000,000 times.

    • Indeed, JK’s wedding was certainly an internet smash and continues to be so! If you are going to pay homage you have to do it in a respectful, not downright rip off way!
